Ken Whisenhunt discusses QB Ryan Lindley, job security

In a local radio interview this week, Ken Whisenhunt discussed the debut of his rookie quarterback and job security with the team struggling.

The Arizona Cardinals are currently riding a seven-game losing streak, and will be sending rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley on to the field Sunday against the New York Jets in just his second career NFL start. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt talked to Doug and Wolf on KTAR in Phoenix about Lindley's debut against the St. Louis Rams last weekend, and whether the rookie gives the team the best chance to win in both the short- and long-term. Via Sports Radio Interviews:

"That's what our focus is, Doug. We're trying to win now and we're doing everything we can to win games. And when you talk about Ryan and where he is, you're talking about what you've seen of him in the limited amount of times that we've seen him play - what he's done in practice, how he handled himself in preseason, how he handled himself the week before in the game against Atlanta. There's a lot of things that go into that."

Lindley has been forced into duty because of injuries to Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. In his debut last weekend, Lindley completed 31 of 52 passes for 312 yards, but was intercepted four times. Two of the picks were returned for touchdowns.

With the team obviously struggling, Whisenhunt was asked later in the interview the inevitable question about his job security, and did not dodge the elephant in the room:

"Everyone's aware of that. You'd be living in a closet if you didn't know that that's part of this business. The coaches have been in it, I've been in it, players have been in it. So you're aware of it. It's not something that you have to talk about."

Kickoff between the Cardinals and Jets is scheduled for 11 a.m. MT on Sunday.
