Ken Whisenhunt praises Ryan Lindley

Despite an unimpressive professional debut on Sunday, the Cardinals head coach has been impressed by the rookie quarterback's work ethic and performance in practice.

Following Ryan Lindley's professional debut in a 23-19 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt had words of praise for his rookie quarterback before the team's meeting on Monday.

Lindley stepped in for struggling starting quarterback John Skelton, and while he didn't post impressive numbers (9-for-20, 64 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions), Whisenhunt said he feels comfortable with the 23-year-old signal caller based on what he has seen from him in practice. According to Whisenhunt:

"The way he's handled himself mentally, the way he's worked physically, there's a lot of things you like about it."

As Whisenhunt tries to put an end to the Cardinals six-game losing streak, he finds himself faced with yet another quarterback controversy. Early in the season Kevin Kolb and John Skelton battled for the starting spot before Skelton was named the starter. Skleton promptly lost the job to Kolb, but Kolb went down with a chest injury and forced Skelton back under center. Sunday, Whisenhunt will have to choose between Lindley and Skelton again as the team continues the search for consistency at quarterback.

The Cardinals will try to snap their six-game skid on Sunday, playing host to the St. Louis Rams. Kickoff is slated for 2:25 p.m. MT and the game will be televised on FOX.
