Beanie Wells Knee Surgery Confirmed

On Tuesday morning, Arizona Cardinals running back Beanie Wells tweeted he was set to go in for surgery. While most figured that it was likely to have some work done on his right knee that bothered him most of the regular season, he did not elaborate.

However, later in the day, azcardinals.com writer Darren Urban confirmed that Wells in fact had arthroscopic surgery on his knee by Dr. James Andrews in Florida. While no details were given beyond that, other than that there was no timetable set yet for him to resume football activities. Urban, though, was confident that Wells would not miss any offseason practice.

It is his second knee surgery while a member of the Cardinals. Despite playing, as coach Ken Whisenhunt described late in the season, "on one leg," Wells shed the "soft" label he had and played through the injury, having a career year of over 1000 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.

His recovery will be important because the second running back behind him, 2011 draft pick Ryan Williams, is also coming off of knee surgery, although his injury cost him his rookie season. The two will go into camp as the top two running backs on the depth chart.
