Oh it's so on. Now that John Skelton has won two whole games for the 2011 Arizona Cardinals we are are totally going to have a quarterback controversy in the desert. I mean people, that's TWO wins compared to ONE win for Kevin Kolb.
Let's ignore that both Kolb and Skelton each have Patrick Peterson to thank for one of their wins. More importantly, lets ignore the fact that Skelton is personally responsible for two safeties, one pick-six and a pick-three (made that one up!) which comes to a total of 14 points given to the opposing defense in two games.
Kolb certainly gave up some points as well but 14 in two games? That is impressive.
Also, John Skelton, while showing very nice poise in the pocket (seriously) doesn't look very accurate with his throws other than the rainbow balls where he shows some touch.
He basically pulled a Tebow in one game and put together one winning drive and what, we're just going to hand him the job now?
Yes, the players reportedly love him. Hell, I love him too. He's a nice guy with a GREAT smile. But they also loved Kevin Kolb before the season started and the losses started to pile up.
If the TEAM starts winning while Kolb is playing he'll have more love than he knows what to do with.
This isn't about love, it is about defense.
In seven starts under Kolb, the Cardinals averaged 20.1 points scored and 21.8 points allowed.
In two starts under Skelton, the Cardinals averaged 20 points scored but only allowed 15 points.
So you see what happens there? When the defense holds teams to 13 and 17 points the Cardinals have a good chance of winning.
Oh, and off those 30 points allowed in two game? Skelton gave up 14 of them!
Now, if John Skelton can be credited with improvements on defense you can slap the franchise tag on his ass and let's roll. Otherwise, when Kolb is healthy he gets his job back. He's got the big contract. He cost DRC and a 2nd round pick.
He's going to get more time because it's the smart thing to do. (He also knows that Skelton is hot on his tail and he better start winning some games.)
