Arizona Cardinals, Week 12: Injury Report, Monday Night Football Sellout

The Arizona Cardinals annouced that the Monday Night Football game versus the San Francisco 49ers is a sellout, the 50th consecutive sold out home game for them. The team also relased their injury report for the game. Headlining the injury report are starters DE Calais Campbell, CB Greg Toler, LB Clark Haggans, WR Steve Breaston, DT Darnell Dockett and S Kerry Rhodes. Questionable for the game are Toler (foot) and Campbell (ankle), who according to Ken Whisenhunt are game-day decisions, along with Breaston (knee), Haggans (groin), DT Dan Williams (toe) and RB LaRod Stephens-Howling (hamstring). Listed as probable are Dockett (shoulder), Rhodes (hand/back), WR Early Doucet (head), CB Michael Adams (ribs) and LB Reggie Walker (hamstring).

Arizona Cardinals Injury Report, Week 12: Greg Toler And Calais Campbell Out Of Thanksgiving Practice

The Arizona Cardinals held a shortened Thanksgiving practice, with the intentions of giving the players three days to do two days of work in preparation for their Monday Night Football matchup against the San francisco 49ers. Calais Campbell (ankle) and Greg Toler (foot) were the only players to not practice at all. There were six other players that were limited, including Darnell Dockett (shoulder), Steve Breaston (knee), and LaRod Stephens-Howling (hamstring).

As mentioned in a previous update, CB Marshay Green was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad, which was necessitated by the injuries to Toler and also CB Michael Adams, who was limited in Thursday's practice. Additionally, the lack of production in punt returns may give Green the opportunity to return punts.

In recent roster moves, RB Alphonso Smith was re-signed to the practice squad, as I expected. He was previously there before last week, when he was promoted to the active roster for the game against Kansas City. He was released earlier in the week when Green was promoted to the 53-man roster. The Cardinals also signed DE Jeremy Navarre to the practice squad. He played in 2009 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

NFL, Arizona Cardinals Week 12: No Injury Report, Beanie Wells Wants More

Because the Arizona Cardinals next play the Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers, there is no official injury report today, as would be customary. There, however, is still news happening. Beanie Wells in an interview Monday with a local radio station expressed his frustration with the running game and with the amount of carries he gets.

"If I got [carries] on a consistent basis then the sky is the limit," Wells said. "I can be one of the elite backs in this league. I just want the football and I'm sure Tim [Hightower] does too. We want to run it collectively as a football team."

This is not the first time he has expressed a desire to run more and get more carries. He also did the week before the New Orleans game. Ken Whisenhunt responded by getting Beanie 20 carries, but that only netted 35 yards.

Well's concern is understandable, considering the Cardinals have run the ball less than any other team in the NFL. They have run the ball 31 times less (196) than the next lowest team, the pass-happy Dallas Cowboys (227) for the entire season. This comes to less than 20 carries a game, which is not much for a team that has two capable backs in Wells and Tim Hightower. It is also understandable considering how inconsistent and often ineffective the passing game has been.

Both Wells and Hightower have stated the desire for more carries publicly. With the four next games being very winnable, it will be insteresting to see how Coach Whisenhunt responds in his offensive gameplan. Will it be more of the same or an attempt to commit to the running game more and not abandon it so quickly?  Many fans are hoping for the latter.

Arizona Cardinals Injury Report, Week 12: Will Davis On IR, Max Komar Re-signed

The Arizona Cardinals made a roster move Tuesday because of the fractured fibula that LB Will Davis suffered during the team's 31-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Coach Ken Whisenhunt had already stated that Davis would miss the remainder of the season, so in an expected move, the team placed Davis on injured reserve, officially ending the season for the second-year player. To replace Davis on roster, WR Max Komar, who was waived last week, was re-signed to the team.

In other moves, waived RB Alphonso Smith, who was promoted to the 53-man roster due to injuries to both RB LaRod Stephens-Howling and RB Jason Wright. Replacing Smith is undrafted rookie CB Marshay Green, who was promoted from the practice squad.

The return of Komar is not a surprise, as the coaching staff has been very pleased with his development this year. The waiving of Smith would seem to indicate that the team is fairly confident that Wright and Stephens-Howling will be ready to play against San Francisco next Monday night. Smith will probably be re-signed to the practice squad later if he clears waivers.

The promotion of Green to the active roster seems to be an indication of concern for the injury to Greg Toler's foot. The move provides depth in the defensive backfield and on special teams, as Green has experience in covering kicks and punts, and also in returning both kicks and punts. If Michael Adams is forced to start again, it would appear that Green will take Adam's place on special teams.

Arizona Cardinals Injury Report, Week 12: Will Davis Out For Season

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said today that linebacker Will Davis suffered a fractured fibula and is out for the remainder of the season. Rookie O'Brien Schofield is expected to see increased playing time in his absence. Additionally, Clark Haggans should be good to go after sitting out the Kansas City Chiefs game with a groin problem.

Defensive end Calais Campbell sprained his ankle in Sunday's game and will be evaluated throughout the week, as will receiver Early Doucet, who was concussed while attempting to retrieve an overthrown pass.

Whisenhunt expressed optimism that running back LaRod Stephens-Howling will be ready for next week's game after missing Sunday with a hamstring injury. So far, Stephens-Howling has been a huge boost on special teams and offense in an otherwise dismal season.
