Andy Murray took home his first Grand Slam victory as he defeated Novak Djokovic in five sets to win the 2012 U.S. Open on Monday.
Murray and Djokovic traded points back and forth in the first set until Murray finally prevailed, 7-6 (12-10), but the big story was the 22-point tiebreaker it took to decide the set. It was the longest tiebreaker in U.S. Open final history. The two kept it dramatic for the second set, as well, with Murray eventually winning 7-5.
But Djokovic wasn't about to let Murray coast to his long-awaited Grand Slam victory, and took the third and fourth sets in a convincing fashion, 6-2 and 6-3. Djokovic cleaned up his act after committing 38 unforced errors in the first two sets. He committed just 15 unforced errors in the third and fourth sets.
Murray wasn't about to go down without a fight, though, and got back on track against Djokovic. He won the final set 6-2 to take home his first Grand Slam victory after a grueling five-hour battle.
