2012 Olympics Recap: Taurasi and Company Crush Canada

Kobe Bryant may have claimed the men's to be the dream team, but it looks like the women's team is living up to their hype a little bit better.

After struggling for a few minutes to find their offensive rhythm, the women's basketball team used suffocating defense to dismantle Canada 91-48. The four time defending gold medalists will go on to play Australia in the semifinals on Thursday. Diana Taurasi led all scorers with 15 points.

In one of the more bizarre finishes in a while, the women's water polo team was up one goal with one second left, only to have to fend for themselves in overtime thanks to their coach's mental slip. Coach Adam Krikorian pulled a Chris Webber and called a time-out when the U.S. didn't have possession - an automatic penalty. Australia converted the shot to tie it at nine and force overtime. Luckily, the women pulled through, scoring twice to advance to the finals against Spain.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings have already furthered their legacy, thanks to the victory of fellow Americans April Ross and Jen Kessy. May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings will at least win a silver now, becoming the only pair in the history of the event to medal three straight times. It is the last pairing for the most decorated Olympic beach volleyball players ever. And on the other side of the coin - Kessy and Ross are in their first Olympics.
