2012 London Olympics Recap: U.S. Women's Soccer Squeaks by Canada At Last Second

After today's amazing women's soccer match-up between Canada and the U.S., it is probably safe to say that the Olympics could end here and now and most people would be satisfied.

Alex Morgan drilled a header home in the 123rd minute as the U.S. barely survived a Canadian team that was intent on sending them home disappointed. Abby Wambauch and Megan Rapinoe (x2) also scored as the ladies had to come back from a 0-1, 1-2, and 2-3 deficits before forcing extra periods. It seemed that the game was likely headed to penalty kicks before Morgan came flying in and increased her ever-growing Olympic legend.

Japan also beat France 2-1 to set up an excellent rematch of the most recent World Cup, which saw Japan squeaking by the U.S. The final for women's soccer is on Thursday.

The U.S. men's basketball team made it out of their group as the top seed, but not before Argentina put another little scare in them. For a team that prides itself on defense, it was pretty non-existant for the first half as the U.S. merely led by one point. Kevin Durant did Kevin Durant things, helping the U.S. turn a 42 point third quarter into a quarterfinal matchup against Australia. Arizona's Andre Iguodala had 13 points and nine rebounds, and this ferociously bizarre dunk turned un-dunk.

The big upset of the day was on the beach volleyball bracket, as a 17th seeded Latvian pair upset the fourth-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. No Americans will stand on the podium for beach volleyball as defending U.S. champs Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser were defeated by an Italian pair last Friday.
