On Sunday, the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series came to Pocono Raceway. After a 90-minute rain delay, the race finally got started, but thunderstorms stopped the drive 106 laps into the 160-lap event. Jeff Gordon entered the race knowing he absolutely needed to win and for once this season, he got his wish. Thanks to the opportune shower, Gordon was able to claim the checkered flag, while Kasey Kahne finished second.
The day had a tragic aftermath, however. Lightning struck the parking lot at Pocono after the race was called, sending several NASCAR fans to the hospital. In all, nine fans were injured and one fan lost their life. Please visit this StoryStream on SB Nation's NASCAR hub to read more about the tragedy.
