2012 Olympics: Usain Bolt Remains Fastest Man In World After Winning 100m Final

Usain Bolt continued to be the fastest man in the world on Sunday afternoon in London, pulling away late in the men's 100m final to win gold. Bolt was even with the rest of the pack through about 75 meters, but simply shifted into a different gear as the finish line neared. He won the race in 9.63 seconds, setting a new olympic record.

Fellow Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake took home the silver medal. He finished in 9.75 and was viewed as the favorite to win outside of Bolt. American Justin Gatlin won a bronze medal after placing third in 9.79, a personal best for him in official compeition.

Gatlin finished a nanosecond ahead of Tyson Gay, who placed fourth with a time of 9.80. Ryan Bailey, the third American in the competition, finished fifth at 9.88 seconds.
