Pitching prospect Tyler Skaggs has been called up to the Arizona Diamondbacks and will start in Wednesday's Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins, reports Jack Magruder of Fox Sports Arizona.
The Diamondbacks are in need of another pitcher and will give the lefty his major-league debut. He and Trevor Bauer were under consideration, according to the team's website.
On Sunday, the D'Back's website wrote that Skaggs was a scratch on Sunday when he was scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Reno. In his last outing, Skaggs struggled and gave up eight runs, but before that he'd gone seven starts without giving up more than one earned run.
Skaggs holds a 2.91 ERA in nine starts with Reno and has 45 strikeouts.
In four years of minor league ball, Skaggs has a 2.98 ERA. In Triple-A, he has won 66.7 percent of his games.
