2012 Olympics, Men's 200m IM Final: Michael Phelps Wins Gold, Ryan Lochte Takes Silver

Michael Phelps continued his excellence in London on Thursday, winning the Men's 200m IM Finals over a field led by fellow American swimmer Ryan Lochte. Phelps got out to an early lead and held strong throughout, winning in 1:54.27.

The win marks his first individual gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, the 16th of his career and his 20th overall medal. Phelps took over the all-time medal lead earlier in the week, so the win just continued padding on to what has been a phenomenal career in the pool.

Lochte appeared tired in the final 50 meters. He had raced in a different qualifying event about 20 minutes prior, so fatigue could have been an issue. Lochte finished in 1:54.90, good for a silver medal. Laszlo Cseh of Hungary won bronze after finishing in 1:56.22.
