2012 Olympics Medal Count: Brady Ellison Helps Add To U.S. Total

The first day of the 2012 Olympics in London is in the books. Sunday will mark the second full day of medal competition and the United States is already in the thick of things in the total medals tally. Heading into Sunday's events, China currently leads all countries with four total medals and four gold medals. The United States and Italy are tied with five total medals.

Brazil, Korea and Japan each have three medals and Japan is the only one of those three countries without a gold medal. No other country has more than one medal.

The United States has one gold medal, two silvers and two bronze medals. One of those silver medals is in the men's team archery competition, which provided perhaps the greatest moment of drama on Saturday's Day 1. The U.S. was duking it out with Italy and was ahead by nine points on Italy's last arrow. The final Italian archer nailed a bullseye just inside the line to award the gold to Italy outright, without need for a playoff. Brady Allison was a member of that U.S. men's archery team and is currently ranked No. 1 in the world. He's also an Arizona native.
