Shiwen Ye of China took the Gold Medal in the Women's 400m Individual Medley swimming event, winning over the second place finisher by 2.84 seconds. That second place finisher was Team USA's Elizabeth Beisel, becoming the first American to medal in the event since Janet Evans in 1988. Xuanxu Li of China took the Bronze.

Caitlin Leverenz was Arizona's representative in the event. The Tucson-born swimmer placed sixth, 7.06 seconds behind the winner. She'll have another chance at winning Olympic Gold in the Women's 200m Individual Medley event, taking place starting Monday, July 30. Like many members of Team USA, she's tweeting about the experience. You can find her @cleverenz.
