Anymore, the Arena Football League doesn't get a lot of love these days, but there was a time when the Arizona Rattlers were a pretty hot ticket. Those that remember the Rattlers teams from the 1990s and early 2000s will remember one very important player -- quarterback Sherdrick Bonner. Bonner put up crazy good passing numbers in the time he was here and led the team to the Arena Bowl multiple times.
As the AFL has been counting down their top players, they have reached number seven, and Bonner was revealed as the seventh best player in AFL history.
He played 14 season with the Rattlers, 1993-98 and again from 2000-2007. Only one other player in AFL history spent more time with one team. He threw 829 TDs for Arizona and led them to five Arena Bowls, winning two.
He holds the AFL record for victories with 134. He and former teammate Randy Gatewood are finalists to be inducted into the 2012 AFL Hall of Fame Class.
While the league gets obscured by college football and the NFL and the league itself had to take a hiatus, I don't think there is any question that there has never been a better quarterback in Arizona, taking into consideration the league they played in.
We congratulate Sherdrick for the recognition and hope that he is a Hall of Famer as of next month. He deserves it.
