MLB Mock Draft 2012: Deven Marrero Taken By Pittsburgh Pirates In First Round

Stay connected for news and updates

Deven Marrero is one of the top prospects available at the 2012 MLB Draft and he will learn who his new team is on Monday night. Once projected to possibly be the No. 1 overall pick at the start of the year, Marrero's stock has dropped a bit, but he remains a likely candidate for the top-10.

Few players available this year have the complete package that Marrero brings with him every time he takes the field. Keith Law of ESPN ($) recently released a mock draft and had Marrero going to the Pittsburgh Pirates with the eighth selection.

Deven Marrero, SS, Arizona State
I've had the Pirates on Marrero for a while but understand they are exploring other options. Industry consensus has them on college players even if they don't take Marrero.

Marrero has the potential to move up to the Major Leagues quickly and the Pirates have no legitimate options for the future at the shortstop position, so this does seem like a pretty strong fit. The Sun Devils' shortstop has the potential to be a great top-of-the-order hitter for whichever team selects him.

The 2012 MLB Draft is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 4.
