On Saturday, Charlotte will play host to the 2012 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race. The annual event is a chance for the drivers and fans alike to let their hair down and let it all hang out. While the race will not result in any points toward the 2012 Sprint Cup Series standings, the winner will receive a check for $1 million and some pretty sweet bragging rights, to boot.
The five-stage race will be four 20-lap segments, followed by a winner-take-all 10-lap sprint from pit road. It's likely to be every bit as thrilling and hair-raising as that sounds.
The All-Star Race has a preliminary race. The Sprint Showdown is a 40-lap race to determine two of the last three entrants into the main event. The Showdown begins at approximately 4:30 p.m. PT and the All-Star Race green flag will be at 6:12 p.m. PT. The race will air on the SPEED Network and you can listen on the Performance Racing Network's Web site. You can also check PRN's site for a list of affiliate stations in your area.
