On Saturday, I'll Have Another did the unthinkable for the second time in the past three weeks. The Kentucky Derby winner needed a mad dash in the home stretch to catch and overtake betting favorite Bodemeister at Churchill Downs two weeks ago and on Saturday, the surprising horse repeated the feat in perhaps an even more thrilling fashion.
Bodemeister again entered the 2012 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico as the betting favorite and again jumped out to an early lead. Bodemeister only extended his lead rounding the final turn, but I'll Have Another (as we have now learned) is an absolute beast in the home stretch. I'll Have Another fired the afterburners and chased down Bodemeister to win by a nose right at the wire and secure the first two jewels in the Triple Crown. The Belmont Stakes is all that stands between I'll Have Another and racing history.
Here are the full results from the 2012 Preakness Stakes:
1. I'll Have Another
2. Bodemeister
3. Creative Cause
4. Zetterholm
5. Teeth of the Dog
6. Optimizer
7. Cozzetti
8. Tiger Walk
9. Deddy Nose Best
10. Went the Day Well
11. Pretension

The 2012 Preakness Stakes was perhaps even more thrilling than the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, which is certainly saying something. Derby winner I'll Have Another benefited from several betting favorites dropping out of the race over the course of the week and was looking at 3-1 odds by the time the race rolled around. Only 2-1 Bodemeister was a bigger favorite in the race.
Still, it took I'll Have Another one more frantic sprint in the home stretch to overtake and pass Bodemeister at the wire and secure the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
Here are the payouts from today's race for win, place and show, assuming a $2 bet.
I'll Have Another: $8.40, $3.80, $2.80
Bodemeister: $3.20, $2.80
Creative Cause: $3.60
Bettors on the $2 exacta will get $18.60, the $1 trifecta $35.40, the $1 superfecta will net those lucky gamblers a pleasant $424.30.

I'll Have Another took the second jewel in the Triple Crown, winning the 2012 Preakness Stakes on Saturday. Bodemeister, again the favorite, was in front for much of the race. But just as it happened at the 2012 Kentucky Derby, I'll Have Another made his move in the closing stretch and ran down Bodemeister to win by a neck.
The pace for the race was a little slower than it was in the Kentucky Derby, which was thought to favor Bodemeister. That turned out to not be the case, as Jockey Mario Gutierrez rode I'll Have Another one step closer to horse racing's most elusive prize, the Triple Crown, which has not been won since 1978. The final odds on I'll Have Another were 3-1, with 2-1 for Bodemeister. Creative Cause came in third.

Saturday will see the running of the 137th Preakness Stakes, as Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another attempts to move towards becoming the first horse to achieve the Triple Crown since 1978. I'll Have Another see Kentucky Derby favorite Bodemeister in a rematch.
Bodemeister, the current favorite with odds at 7/4, came in second at the Derby. I'll Have Another currently has ods at 5/2. Bodemeister drew the number seven post position, with I'll Have Another at ninth. That's good news for both, as traffic at the rail was responsible for ruining Derby contender Union Rags' shot at victory. Went The Day Well and Creative Cause are other contenders worth mentioning at Pimilico, with odds of 6/1 and 7/1 respectively.
Online coverage starts at 4:30pm EDT (1:30pm PDT) courtesy of NBC Sports.

I'll Have Another chased down Bodemeister in the home stretch two weeks ago to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby and be the only horse capable of potentially winning the Triple Crown this year. The second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, takes place on Saturday. While I'll Have Another was not seen as a favorite to win the Preakness, he is benefiting greatly from a number of horses that were scratched or withdrawn from the race, including Dullahan and Union Rags.
The odds-on favorite remains Bodemeister, who will be looking to redeem an embarrassing loss in the Derby where he was the heavy betting favorite. Still, all eyes will be on I'll Have Another as he pursues one of the rarest and most elusive championships in all of sports.
Here are the early odds for the Preakness, courtesy of Doc's Sports:
Post Position - Horse - Morning Line
1 - Tiger Walk - 30/1
2 - Teeth of the Dog - 15/1
3 - Pretension - 30/1
4 - Zetterholm - 20/1
5 - Went The Day Well- 6/1
6 - Creative Cause - 6/1
7 - Bodemeister - 8/5
8 - Daddy Nose Best - 12/1
9 - I'll Have Another- 5/2
10 - Optimizer - 30/1
11 - Cozzetti - 30/1

The 2012 Preakness will be the 137th running of the historic race, and there appears to be a very strong field in the running for the second leg of the Triple Crown. For I'll Have Another, who won the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, it's all about continuing his quest for the Triple Crown title, something that has not been won since 1978 by Affirmed.
For Bodemeister, who was the favorite in the Kentucky Derby and the favorite this weekend, it's about revenge and finishing on top. And for the rest of the field, nothing more pleases onlookers more than a great underdog story.
Here is a complete look at the 2012 Preakness, the schedule for the race, and more:
Post Time: The race is scheduled to begin at 3:18 p.m. PDT on Saturday afternoon.
TV Coverage: NBC will provide the live telecast of the race. Look for their broadcast to begin at 1:30 p.m. for pre-race reaction and predictions.
Post Positions:
1. Tiger Walk
2. Teeth of the Dog
3. Pretension
4. Zetterholm
5. Went the Day Well
6. Creative Cause
7. Bodemeister
8. Daddy Nose Best
9. I'll Have Another
10. Optimizer
11. Cozzetti
Track Conditions & Weather: It will be a beautiful day for racing on Saturday with temperatures in the high 70s. No rain is in the forecast and the track is considered to be in great, firm shape.
Favorites & Odds: Bodemeister has been the favorite all week at 8-5 odds. Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another comes in at 5-2. Went the Day Well and Creative Cause have morning lines of 6-1, placing them with third-best odds in the field.

Bodemeister is the 8-5 favorite in this Saturday's Preakness according to the latest odds. Trained by Arizona-native Bob Baffert, Bodemeister currently carries better odds than the Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another who has 5-2 odds. Two other Baffert-trained horses, Liaison and Paytner ended up pulling out of the race this week.
Bodemeister is named after Baffert's son Bode Baffert. Mike Smith will be Bodemeister's jockey and he will look to come out on top in this race after falling short of winning the Kentucky Derby in early May. It is not often that the winner of the Kentucky Derby is not the outright favorite going into the Preakness, but Bodemeister's strong track record along with its second place finish at the Kentucky Derby are helping the colt's odds.
SB Nation's Matt Gardner from anddownthestretchtheycome.com broke down the current odds for the 2012 Preakness in this SB Nation studios video:

The annual running of the Kentucky Derby was a great one, with 'I'll Have Another' taking home the crown. The second stop of the triple crown takes place this weekend at The Preakness Stakes. Just 12 horses remain in the field following a few dropouts, including one from Liaison on Monday. Despite finishing second at The Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, Bodemeister remains the favorite.
These are the probable horses for the 2012 Preakness, their jockey and their primary trainer. They come courtesy of the SB Nation horse raising blog, And Down The Stretch They Come:
Bodemeister - M. Smith, B. Baffert
Cozzetti - J. Lezcano, D. Romans
Creative Cause - J. Rosario, M. Harrington
Daddy Nose Best - J. Leparoux, S. Asmussen
Guyanna Star Dweej - A. Solis, D. Shivmangal
I'll Have Another - M. Gutierrez, D. O'Neill
Optimizer - C. Nakatani, D.W. Lukas
Pretension - J. Santiago, C. Grove
Teeth of the Dog - J. Bravo, M. Matz
Tiger Walk - K. Desormeaux. I. Correas
Went the Day Well - J. Velazquez, G. Motion
Zetterholm - J. Alvarado, R. Dutrow

Liaison was supposed to be one of the main horses in contention in the 2012 Preakness, but it appears like he won't be racing. Jennie Rees reports that Arnold Zetcher's horse pulled out of the race late Monday night and is out of consideration.
Liaison is trained by Bob Baffert, who was born in Nogales, Arizona. He had a great result at the 2012 Kentucky Derby, where as a long shot he finished sixth overall. Before the Derby, Liaison had a record of 7-3-0-1, but hadn't won a race since December. Liaison probably isn't in the best possible shape to win this race, so it makes sense that he's not competing.
Baffert still has Bodemeister in the race, and he figures to be one of the big favorites to win it all come Saturday.

Bodemeister is considered the favorite in many books to end up winning the 2012 Preakness Stakes. He came very close to winning the 2012 Kentucky Derby. Bodemeister started Churchill Downs at an extremely fast pace and nearly held on before I'll Have Another ended up winning in the final few yards.
Bodemeister narrowly has the edge over I'll Have Another to win this race, which gives you an idea of how strongly people consider the horse's chances at winning this one. Bodemeister was trained by Bob Baffert (who was born in the state of Arizona), is considered an Empire Maker out of a Storm Cat mare, and has a career record of 5-2-3. Bodemeister's most notable victory is winning the Arkansas Derby along with his runner-up finishes at the Kentucky Derby and the San Felipe.

On Saturday, the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes will take place at Pimlico. The field will be smaller than the Kentucky Derby, with only 14 horses in the running, but the competition will be no less fierce.
Horses from Churchill Downs that have already been scratched from the Preakness include Union Rags, Dullahan and Gemologist, which leaves three less horses for Derby winner I'll Have Another. It also means three less known quantities for the horse, which will be attempting to move one step closer to history by winning the second leg of the Triple Crown.
The odds are not on the side of I'll Have Another on Saturday, particularly as the horse winning the Derby was a bit of a shocker to begin with. But Derby favorite Bodemeister will still be running on Saturday. It took a sprint in the home stretch for I'll Have Another to edge out Bodemeister at Churchill Downs, but it seems unlikely that history can repeat itself.
Bodemeister remains a strong competitor and will likely be the betting favorite once again by the time the race rolls around.

The 2012 Preakness Stakes will take place this Saturday, May 19th at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland. You can watch it on NBC.
There were originally three horses with Arizona-connections, but only two remain. All three hoses were trained by Arizona-born owner Bob Baffert. Bodemeister was the Kentucky Derby runner-up and probably has the strongest chance of winning the Preakness based on previous results. Liaison is the other Baffert-owned horse that ran at Churchill Downs, and finished sixth at the Derby, and it might be a great underdog pick for those of you looking for under-the-radar horses. The other horse (and new entry; it didn't compete in the Derby) is Paynter, but Baffert said that the horse actually would not compete at the end.
Here is the schedule of events for this week concerning the Pimlico races, including times, races, and TV information (with the Preakness being the next-to-last race).

The 2012 Kentucky Derby took place, as always, at Churchill Downs in Louisville on Saturday. A crowd of well over 100,000 spectators watched live as the Run for the Roses crowned its 138th champion.
15-1 underdog I'll Have Another stunned everyone with a thrilling win, seeming to come from out of nowhere down the stretch and overtaking betting favorite Bodemeister, who had led for the entire race. Dullahan took third, while the other big favorite in the race, Union Rags, had a very disappointing finish at seventh place.
While it is unlikely that I'll Have Another will be able to piece together the Triple Crown (not even the most dominating horses have been able to accomplish the feat since 1978), all attention will be on the newly-christened celebrity as the Preakness Stakes rapidly approaches.
Here are the full results from the 2012 Kentucky Derby:
1. I'll Have Another -- 15-1
2. Bodemeister -- 4-1
3. Dullahan -- 12-1
4. Went The Day Well -- 30-1
5. Creative Cause -- 11-1
6. Liaison -- 56-1
7. Union Rags -- 5-1
8. Rousing Sermon -- 40-1
9. Hansen -- 13-1
10. Daddy Long Legs -- 26-1
11. Optimizer -- 42-1
12. Alpha -- 19-1
13. El Padrino -- 29-1
14. Done Talking -- 39-1
15. Sabercat -- 37-1
16. Gemologist -- 18-1
17. Trinninberg -- 44-1
18. Prospective -- 57-1
19. Take Charge Indy -- 11-1
20. Daddy Nose Best -- 14-1
