It was Rickie Fowler shooting up the leaderboard that got everyone talking at day three of the 2012 Players Championship. Fowler started the day 3-under and in 22nd place, but shooting 66 on the day brought him up to 9-under and he settled in third place. Matt Kuchar looked great for much of the day, but two late bogeys saw him shoot 3-under to settle at 11-under overall, in second palce. Like many golfers, he had trouble when he came up short on hole 17 and sunk the ball. His next shot was a beauty, stopping just a few feet from the hole. Though he bogeyed the hole, it would be hard to ask for a better recovery.
That bogey opened the door for Kevin Na, who had entered the day tied for first, and stayed more-or-less at par the entire day. He birdied on hole 16, which moved him into the lead with Kuchar. He then managed hole 17 without a massive amount of trouble, and birdied again on 18 to take hold of the lead. Zach Johnson, who had opened the day tied for first, didn't fare so well. He ended the day with an awkward shot from the bunker, was 1-over on the day and is tied for fourth at 7-under for the tournament. Na has the lead but the gap is far from insurmountable, so the final day of the tournament should see a lot of action.
