The Players Championship 2012, Leaderboard Update: Zach Johnson Takes The Lead At -8

The fifth major is starting to tighten up around the top of the leaderboard as red numbers abound at the 2012 Players Championship, with Zach Johnson taking the early second round lead after firing a stellar 6-under 66 to take the lead at 8-under for the week.

Johnson used eight birdies and two bogies on the day to snag the top spot, including five bidies on the back nine alone. The former Masters champion now finds himself two shots clear of the field as Adam Scott, and five other players at 6-under for the tournament.

As for Phil Mickelson, he shot a second round 71 to move to 2-under for the tournament, which will certainly be well enough to keep him around for the weekend, though will need to put some low scores together on Saturday and Sunday to do so.

Tiger Woods just teed off, sitting on the wrong side of the currently projected cut line of even par at 2-over for the tournament. Woods has never missed the cut in consecutive starts in his professional career, which he is in danger of today.
