2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open Final Results: Spencer Levin Falters, Kyle Stanley Finishes Strong To Win

Just a week ago, Kyle Stanley was just a day removed from a huge meltdown that cost him a win. He blew a three-shot lead on the final hole to eventually lose on the tie-break. This week at the TPC Scottsdale, he came into the final round of play tied for fifth place, while Spencer Levin had a commanding six-stroke lead.

This week, Stanley was on the other end of the picture. He charged hard and played a great final round, while Levin fell apart. Stanley shot a -6 65 on the day to finish the tournament -15 to give him a one-shot win over Ben Crane to become the 2012 champ.

Stanley did not bogey a single hole and had six birdies on the day.

Where Stanley stood a week ago, Levin stands now, although his meltdown did not come on the last hole. It was throughout the day. He had four bogeys and a double bogey, finishing the round four-over par. He finished in third place, two shots back.

The two biggest names in the tourney -- Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler -- finished tied for 26th with a -6 for the weekend.

Waste Management Phoenix Open, Final Round Leaderboard: Spencer Levin's Lead Shrinking

Sacramento, CA native Spencer Levin is looking for his first career PGA Tour victory of his young career, taking a comfortable lead into the final round at TPC Scottsdale during the Waste Management Phoenix Open. But after a bit of a shaky start, Levin has seen his lead shrink quite a bit early in the round, leaving it wide open down the stretch on Super Bowl Sunday.

Levin has two bogies already on his front nine, while both Ben Crane and Kyle Stanley find themselves 3-under for the day and now only four shots behind Levin along with John Huh with all of them with about nine holes left to play.

As for fan favorite Phil Mickelson, he finds himself three-over for the day so far, falling out of contention at 5-under par for the week, tied for 28th overall.

Levin’s never been in this position on the PGA tour, and with the raucous crowds at TPC Scottsdale this Sunday, the pressure will certainly be high. Let’s see how he copes with it down the stretch.

Waste Management Phoenix Open, First Round Update: Phil Mickelson Finishes Three Spots Behind Webb Simpson

Phil Mickelson finishes the day in a huge tie for 15th at -3 after a solid round of golf. Mickelson started on the back nine and had birdies on the 14th, 17th and 18th holes to get to -3, then managed a birdie on the par-5 third hole before bogeying the par-3 fourth hole. Mickelson will look to leapfrog to the top of the leaderboard this weekend.

No one has yet to do as well as Webb Simpson at -6. We have a five way tie for second at -5, with Derek Lamely, Jarrod Lyle, Kevin Na, Harrison Frazar and Ryan Palmer all right there behind Simpson. Lamely tore through the back nine with five birdies, Lyle got an eagle on the 13th and three straight birdies on 15, 16 and 17, Na played a bogey-free round of golf, Frazar did his damage on the front nine, and Palmer is still out on the course with the best chance of catching up to Simpson.

Waste Management Phoenix Open, First Round Update: Trevor Immelman, Webb Simpson Take Early Lead

It seems like South African Trevor Immelman's name hasn't been heard much since his 2008 Masters victory, but he's brought his game to TPC Scottdale so far as he and Webb Simpson have jumped out to an early lead at the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open on Thursday.

Both men sit at -6 midway through their back nine, both Immelman and Simpson are sporting a bogey-free rounds on the day thus far with six birdies, currently on the 15th and 13th holes respectfully.

Phil Mickelson just bogeyed the 4th, (his 13th hole) to move back to 3-under, while fan favorite Freddy Couples unfortunately had to withdraw earlier in the day due to illness, as did Nick Watney, also citing an Illness.

Fred Couples Withdraws From Waste Management Open

With the first round of the Waste Management Open set to start today, there have been two withdrawals. The first was on Tuesday when Nick Watney pulled out because of an illness. Now, as of Wednesday afternoon, Fred Couples has also pulled out of the tournament.

Couple was one of five golfers to receive a sponsor's exemption to play. The reason given for the withdrawal is officially an illness, just as it was for Watney.

Replacing Couples in the tourney will be Ken Duke.

Although Couples makes the second big-name player to pull out, as interest is still at a high locally. Local favorite and former Arizona State golfer Phil Mickelson is still set to play, so people will still turn out, and as it has been seen so far, it may be in record numbers.

This tournament, moreso than many others, is known for the big fan turnouts and the raucous behavior from the gallery.

We will keep you posted on scores.
