According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Arizona Diamondbacks are actively trying to trade star outfielder Justin Upton. A source told Rosenthal the chances of Upton playing somewhere other than Arizona next year are "80-20."
A late-breaking report from Fox Sports baseball writer Ken Rosenthal indicates that the Arizona Diamondbacks are actively trying to trade outfielder Justin Upton.
According to Rosenthal, a league source has indicated to him the chances of Upton playing somewhere other than Arizona next year are "80-20."
For the Diamondbacks, it isn't the first time they've tried to trade Upton, a two-time All-Star who batted .280 last season. Arizona tried to move the 25-year-old outfielder at the general managers' meetings in 2010, in addition to last season's July 31 trade deadline.
However, Upton has remained a Diamondback, and part of the reason may be his contract. Upton is owed $9.75 in 2013, before his contract jumps up to $14.25 million in 2014 and $14.5 million in 2015.
Rosenthal reported that in return for Upton, the Diamondbacks could be looking for an upgrade at shortstop.
Rosenthal lists the Texas Rangers as a possible trade partner, with their star shortstop Elvis Andrus coming back to Arizona as part of the deal.
