Arizona vs. Stanford: Wildcats blow late lead, lose in overtime 54-48

The Arizona Wildcats held a lead late in the fourth quarter against a ranked opponent yet again on Saturday afternoon. Instead of picking up a stop or two, UA's defense completely fell apart and eventually lost to No. 18 Stanford by a score of 54-48 in overtime.

The Wildcats led by 48-34 with nine minutes left. Stanford, a team that had been limited offensively all season, drove the ball down on their next drive and cut the deficit to 48-41 with 6:34 remaining. Matt Scott and Arizona's offense stalled immediately on the next driving, going three-and-out before punting. Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes led his team down the field yet again in the final minutes, eventually rushing into the end zone with just 45 seconds remaining to tie the game.

Arizona got the ball with 41 seconds and two timeouts on their own 17 yard line. Instead of going for the win, Rich Rodriguez inexplicably ran the ball twice to kill the clock, sending the game to overtime.

In the overtime session, Scott was intercepted on the fifth play. Stanford needed two plays to then score, capped off with a 21-yard touchdown rush from Stepfan Taylor.

Arizona is now 3-3 and enter a bye week with just about every starter battling some kind of injury. They'll play next in two weekends against Washington.
