Arizona Vs. USC: Wildcats up early, 10-0, on Trojans

Stay connected for news and updates

The Arizona Wildcats have upset on their minds as they have jumped out to an early 10-0 lead over the USC Trojans on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats defense made a big play early, intercepting Matt Barkley in Arizona territory. USC helped Arizona on the ensuing drive, garnering a personal foul taunting penalty and moving the offense into Trojan territory. Matt Scott would connect with Austin Hill on a 30-yard pass two plays later to put Arizona at the ten.

Scott hit Johnny Jackson to cap the drive from eight yards out, putting the Wildcats into the lead with 7:20 left in the first.

USC answered immediately by driving in Arizona territory. The Trojans failed to convert a fourth and 2 from the Wildcats 15 as Barkley sailed a pass over an open receiver in the endzone. The Wildcats made USC pay on the next play from scrimmage, as Austin Hill took a screen pass 56 yards down the field to set the Arizona offensive up for a scoring opportunity again.

The Wildcats appeared to score on a 2-yard carry from Ka'Deem Carey, but the touchdown was called back by a holding penalty. USC would return the favor when Leonard Williams ripped Carey's helmet off on the next play, resulting in a 1st and Goal from the four for Arizona. UA could not capitalize, and settled for a field goal.

The Trojans have a 1st and 10 from midfield as the second quarter begins.
