The Giants are the new NFL champs. Let the offseason officially begin
Super Bowl XLVI may be freshly in the books, but the job of the oddsmaker marches steadily on, as always. There are already advance odds available for likelihood of each NFL team to win it all in 2013. The Arizona Cardinals don't quite have the longest odds of any team, but the news could certainly be better.
The New York Giants picked up their fourth all-time Super Bowl title on Sunday when they defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
The Arizona Cardinals, of course, came up short in their only Super Bowl appearance in 2009, so they are still waiting to take their place among the all-time winners. But the Giants now stand with the Green Bay Packers as the only two teams to win four Super Bowls. They are now one of the only five teams in NFL history to win four or more.

While the Giants still stand behind the six titles of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the five titles of the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, they enter a whole new sphere of debates as to the all-time best football franchises. If the measure of a team's history can be measured in championships, the Giants are now truly one of the elite.

Super Bowl XLVI is in the books, and now so are the commercials. For casual fans, the commercials are every bit as much a vital aspect of the big game as is the on-field action. It could even be argued that there are some years where there is more action in the gaudy and big-budget ads than in the game itself.
This year certainly provided a bumper crop of ads, ranging from "good" to "bad" to "weird" to "stupid." So basically your normal night of television viewing. Let's take a look at some of the standouts from the 2012 Super Bowl.

The three standout commercials in my mind were all car ads. Chevy's post-apocalyptic Silverado ad should get the nod, I think, just for how angry it made Ford. The rival company was reportedly none too happy about the jab Chevy took in the commercial and approached both Chevy and NBC about getting the ad pulled. They were not successful.
Hyundai's "Gonna Fly Now" ad. Everyone knows the Rocky theme song. It's as iconic as a piece of music can be. It's a borderline-indispensable piece of Americana in the last fifty years. If you're thinking about television as a setting for advertisements, you can probably not do much better than pairing this ad with the biggest North American sporting event of the year.
Audi's "Vampire Party" was a nice jab at the prevailing "VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME" fad, but also kind of terrifying and macabre if you really think about it. Not sure if that is what Audi was going for, but I'll take it.

Eli Manning could not be stopped in this one. The New York Giants quarterback directed big drive after big drive all season, so it figures he ends the season with another big win.

Manning completed five of six passes for 74 yards, with some big throws to Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks. That set up an Ahmad Bradshaw touchdown rush that put the Giants up with just under a minute left. It was as close to a replay of the previous Super Bowl as you can imagine, and Eli is the one who became the MVP once more.

The rematch of the 2007 Super Bowl certainly did not disappoint. Much like Super Bowl XLII, Super Bowl XLVI had a heartstopping finish and late game heroics, and this time around, it came down to the final play. But let's back up first.
The game started out rather sloppy for the Patriots, and the Giants were first on the scoreboard when Tom Brady was called for intentional grounding while throwing from the endzone, meaning a safety was called. New York went up 2-0 and added to their lead later in the first with a touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Victor Cruz.
The Pats finally got on the scoreboard early in the 2nd quarter to cut the lead to 9-3. The two teams went back and forth for most part of the 2nd quarter, but then New England took control of the ball on the four yard line with just over four minutes in the first half. Tom Brady and the Pats then put together a 14-play, 96 yard drive and scored the go-ahead touchdown with eight ticks remaining. Patriots led 10-9 at half.
After a riveting halftime performance by Madonna (cough), the Patriots struck first in the 2nd half on their first possession with an 8-play, 79 yard drive for a touchdown and looked to be in good position to take control of the game.
The Giants persevered though, with Eli Manning and the G-Men putting together a drive on the ensuing possession to grab a field goal and cut the lead to 17-12. The defense held, and the Giants took advantage by driving and converting another field goal. 17-15. Fourth Quarter. Let's just go right to the good part.
After forcing a Patriots punt with 3:53 to go, the Giants took the ball and on the first play of that drive, Eli Manning threw a bomb down the left sideline to Mario Manningham for an unbelievable reception for 38 yards that put the Giants at the 50. They continued to drive, and when they got within the 10 with just under a minute to go, the Patriots let them score a touchdown in order to get the ball back with time to go down the field. Strange play indeed.
The Patriots put together a great effort on their final drive but came up short as the hail-mary to the endzone fell to the turf, making the Giants the Super Bowl XLVI champions. Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. Perhaps he is, in fact, elite.

With the next Super Bowl champions to be known in the next hour, the New England Patriots pulled ahead, only to have the New York Giants hit a couple of field goals as New England holds to a two point lead after three quarters in Super Bowl XLVI.
After the halftime show, when Madonna performed withe likes of LMFAO and Celo Green, Tom Brady led the Patriots to a opening drive of eight plays and 79 yard, ending in a 12-yard Aaron Hernandez touchdown reception. Tha put New England ahead 17-9.
The Giants were unable to put the ball in the endzone during the quarter, but they did put together a 10-play drive and a nine-play drive that ended in Lawrence Tynes field goals.
The game continued to have quarterback dominance without the high score. Between Tom Brady and Eli Manning, they had thrown 52 passes in three quarters. There had been only 11 incompletions.
The final quarter is surely to be a good done. The Giants have been money late in games and the New England defense is not known for being particularly stout. We likely can expect a game that goes down to the wire.
The New York Giants defensive effectively shut down the New England Patriots' vaunted offense for most of the first half of Super Bowl XLVI.
Then came the last four minutes of the second quarter, when the Patriots and Tom Brady methodically worked the ball down the field and Brady hit Danny Woodhead for a 4-yard touchdown pass with eight second left until halftime.
The drive tied for the longest scoring drive in Super Bowl history and gave the Pats a 10-9 lead. Which they'll take given the way the Giants defense has played so far.
Hobbled tight end Rob Gronkowski from Arizona made his first catch with a little less than three minutes to play in the second half and the Patriots needed until their final drive of the first half to get their offense into good rhythm.
That said, this game is far from over. Both teams are playing a ball-control, patient offense and trying to take what the other team's defense i
Now it's Madonna time. Here's hoping she sings "Holiday."
This game is anything but. Looks like we're headed for a close one. The Patriots are largely unable to run the ball while the Giants keep grounding and pounding so something's got to give.
The Giants lost tight end Travis Beckhum to a torn ACL early in the quarter. New York has other options at the position but Beckhum at least kept the Patriots defense more honest.
New York scored the only points of the second quarter, a field goal by Stephen Gostkowski and the touchdown. At some point the Giants might be due for a big play the way they've softened the Patriots' secondary. But the Patriots' offensive line is giving Brady ample protection against a formidable pass rush.
The key for New England will be to continue to keep the Giants offense off the field as much as possible.
After a bunch of hype, a good Kelly Clarkson national anthem rendition and a few not so funny commercials, the Super Bowl finally began. When the game finally began, the important stuff began -- football. The Patriots won the coin toss and deferred. It was the first time in 15 years that he AFC won the coin toss.
When the game began, New York drove the ball past midfield and punted, pinning New England back inside their own ten.
That is where the first surprise of the game happened.
Tom Brady dropped back to pass and threw the ball deep without a receiver in the area when he was pressures by Justin Tuck. After one play by the Patriots and there was a 2-0 Giants lead, as Brady was called for intentional grounding in the endzone.
On the ensuing drive, New York drove down the field and Eli Manning found Victor Cruz for a touchdown. Just before that, it appeared that Cruz had lost the ball on a fumble, but New England was called for 12 men on the field and the fumble was nullified.
After one quarter, the Giants had the lead 9-0. Eli Manning was 9-9 for 77 yards.
On Super Bowl Sunday, few things are greater than some mind-numbing, mouth-blistering, hotter than hot wings, right? Right.
So for those brave souls out there with the conviction and determination to make these uber-spicy chicken wings, more power to you. But you’ve been warned….
Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons paprika
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
5 pounds chicken wings, cut apart at joints, wing tips discarded
2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
2 cups butter, melted
2 (5 ounce) bottles hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
2 (5 ounce) bottles habanero hot sauce
5 habanero peppers, seeded and chopped (wear gloves)
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
Directions:
Mix the flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a large resealable plastic bag.
Drop 5 or 6 wings at a time into the flour mixture. Seal the bag and shake to coat wings with flour.
Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Gently lower the coated wings into the hot oil and deep-fry until wings are no longer pink in the center and the coating is golden brown, 5 to 10 minutes.
Drain the wings on paper towels and set aside.
Place the butter, hot pepper sauce, habanero pepper sauce, habanero peppers, and pineapple into the pitcher of a blender. Blend the sauce until smooth (do not allow sauce to touch your eyes); pour into a large resealable plastic bag.
Place the fried chicken wings into the bag of sauce, 5 or 6 at at a time, seal the bag, and gently shake to coat the wings in the sauce. Remove to a platter for serving.
Makes about 15 wingy’s.

Super Bowl XLVI takes place on Sunday in Indianapolis. Millions of people around the world will be watching and a good many of those viewers will also be laying money down on the outcome. They'll also be laying money down on the point spread, the over/under and any number of prop bets.
The prop bets are often the most interesting of betting lines at each year's Super Bowl. Here's a look at some of the pop bets involving New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, as provided by Bovada.
For starters, Brady is the 7/5 favorite to win the Super Bowl MVP award. It would be his third.
The odds are 25/1 against Brady that he will score the first touchdown in the game.
The over/under for total Brady passing yards in the game is set at 320.5. The over/under on total Brady Passing attempts is set at 39.5. The o/u for total completions is 25.5. The o/u for longest yardage on a Brady completion is set at 42.5. The amount of Brady touchdowns is at 2.5.
Those are just a few of the Tom Brady-centric bets available. There's seemingly no limit to the amount of things a person could bet on in the Super Bowl, if one was so inclined.

Super Bowl XLVI takes place on Sunday afternoon, as the New York Giants and New England Patriots meet up in a rematch of the 2008 edition of the big game. There are plenty of questions and speculation surrounding the game and no analysts or columnists seem to be able to agree on what team has the definitive edge. Certainly, the two teams are evenly matched and quite familiar with one another, from the coaching staffs on down.
According to our friends over at OddsShark, the Patriots enter the game as the very slight favorites. Every site listed on OddsShark has the Pats as the favorites, but only predicts them to win by between 2.5 and 3 points. The over/under for the game is currently set at between 53.5 and 54 points, which seems a bit high, especially considering the speculation from various experts.
With the game predicted to be so close by the oddsmakers and given what we know about the teams, it should be an exciting game.

Super Bowl Sunday has turned into a national holiday for many in the country. Even if your favorite team isn't participating in the event, an excuse to eat and drink is never needed. Combine these festivities with the excellent Super Bowl commercials and you can have yourself quite the day.
Fortunately for you, we have a sneak peak of a few of the better Super Bowl commercials that will be aired this weekend. Check them out after the page jump...
Rob Gronkowski was a star at the University of Arizona before continuing his football career with the New England Patriots. All eyes have been on the All-Pro tight end this week as he attempts to recover from a high ankle spain, and it appears like Gronkowski will indeed play in the Super Bowl, barring any unforeseen setbacks in the next 24 hours or so.
With Rob Gronkowski doing some practice in the past two days, there is no doubt he will play despite high ankle sprain
— John Clayton (@ClaytonESPN) February 3, 2012
While he played under Mike Stoops and a different coaching staff at the UA, Gronk playing in the biggest sporting event of the year while repping the Wildcats can only be good for our national exposure. Assuming his ankle is at least somewhat healthy -- and, honestly, his adrenaline should take care of most of it -- he will undoubtably have a huge impact on the Super Bowl.
Stay tuned for any further updates with Gronk, but it sure sounds like he'll be ready to start come Sunday evening. Bear Down.
On Sunday, the New York Giants and the New England Patriots will face off to determine which team will be the world champions of football. Quarterback Tom Brady is already considered one of the best, but with a win, he could join the ranks of Joe Montana with a fourth Super Bowl win. Eli Manning, with a second championship, could establish himself as a legitimate elite QB.
As for picking the game, our writing staff is almost unanimous. The votes are 7-1 in favor of the Giants. Read on to find out why.
The Super Bowl is finally here this weekend. The rematch between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants. Tom Brady and the Patriots would like nothing more than to get back at the Giants for the Super Bowl four years ago that ruined New England's chance of immortality and the first 19-0 team in history.
With the Super Bowl comes gambling, and the first and foremost is making your pick against the spread. As of right now, the Patriots are favored by three points. What is our pick?
The Patriots have done what they needed to, but their road was not the hardest. They had a bye, they played Tim Tebow and (giving credit) they beat a good Baltimore Ravens team.
The Giants played a top offense in the Green Bay Packers and beat them. They played the NFC's top defense in the 49ers and beat them. New England has a high-powered offense, but the Patriot defense is not good on paper.
However, the final key is the health of TE Rob Gronkowski. He is the difference make in that offense. While he will play despite the high ankle sprain, no one knows how well or how many snaps. Without a healthy Gronkowski to expose mismatches down the field, New York will be able to hold of the offense of the Patriots in check just enough. New England will not be able to stop Eli Manning. Pick: Giants, +3.0
As the Super Bowl tends to be perhaps the single most important TV event over the course of a year, advertisers know this have traditionally made it the launchpad for new ad campaigns. In fact, for some, the game itself is secondary to seeing what new commercials there will be. With the Giants and the Patriots battling for the football title of the world, what can we expect to see in the way of Super Bowl ads?
As always, we can expect Budweiser to be heavily involved. They will be the exclusive beer advertiser of the game for the 24th straight season.
They will air six new ad spots that total four and a half minutes of new material.
They will begin promoting a new line called "Platinum".
Things to watch for in the Bud commercials? You will see the Clydesdales in one ad and a dog will be featured in another. There is one that is called "Cannonball" and an unconventional office shown,
Will the ads be funny? That's what most people care about.
Regardless of the intent of the ads, they are meant to get you to think of their brand. We won't know until after the fact if it was a successful campaign. Until then, most will simply hope for something funny.

We are just a few days away from the biggest game of the season and New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is one of the keys to the game for the New England offense. The former Arizona Wildcat had a record-breaking season and creates all sorts of matchup problems for defenses because of his size and speed. Many believe that he is the difference maker in the New England offense.
Having suffered a high ankle sprain in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, his status for the game this weekend has been a little up in the air. He was in a walking boot earlier in the week.
However, a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter sheds more light on the situation.
Not that this isn't unexpected. Not only is the Super Bowl the final game of the year, players never know whether they will ever get back. So, you can book it that he is going to play. The question is how much and how effective.
Despite the uncertainty of his ability to play and play well, the Patriots are still considered three-point favorites for the big game.

As you get deluged with story after story regarding the Super Bowl this week in Indianapolis, you would think that every possible topic related to the big game would be exhausted. There was a list about the best 25 teams that never won the Super Bowl. Interestingly enough, three teams from this season made the list -- the San Francisco 49ers, the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints. There are some other great teams like the 2001 Rams, but the list had me thinking. Who were the worst teams to make it to the Super Bowl?
Arizona Cardinals fans remember the 2008 season when their team hobbled into the playoffs thanks to a very weak NFC West. They had suffered losses of 48-20, 35-14 and 47-7 in the last five weeks of the season. Cris Collinsworth famously put his foot in his mouth, calling them the worst playoff team in NFL history. Arizona was 9-7, but got hot at the right time and came within a few moments of a Super Bowl victory. Looking at the body of work in the regular season the Cardinals have to rank up there near the top of the worst teams to play in a Super Bowl.
There is another 9-7 team in the Super Bowl this year in the New York Giants, but it is a little different. Looking only at the wins and losses, you might be tempted to call the Giants one of the worst teams to play in the big game.
They are a little different than the Cardinals.
Rob Gronkowski has taken over the Super Bowl - and he isn't even sure he'll play in it.
The sprained left ankle that is the talk of media day today in Indianapolis is taking its time healing. There are steps forward but we won't know for sure of his status until gameday. For now, Gronk is answering questions like a classic New England Patriot, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.
"I don't know yet (if I'll be able to play Sunday)," Gronkowski told a throng of reporters at Lucas Oil Stadium. "We're going day by day. Making new steps every day, feeling better every day. That's a positive sign and you just want to keep going in the right direction. I want to be out there with the team obviously. I want to help out the team obviously. Just taking it step by step, getting better every single day."
One good sign was that Gronk no longer is wearing a walking boot and is calling the sprain "nagging, sore."
In an offense centered around two tight end sets, Gronk's availability is paramount to the success of the Patriots offense. This season, Gronk grabbed 90 receptions for 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns, the latter two being tight-end records. He'll be missed if he's not on the field.
"No one is as tough as him, he makes our offense go," said Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. "Hopefully we have him out there."
Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots is a big weapon in Sunday's Super Bowl matchup if he plays. So it figures he gets a lot of attention in Super Bowl prop bets. After the jump, view the multiple prop bets that feature him!
Super Bowl week is upon us as the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46 on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. The game is a rematch of Super Bowl 42 which took place in Arizona in 2008.
The Patriots come into the Super Bowl with an overall record of 15-3 including playoffs. They have been led by their juggernaut offense, which averaged 32 points per game in the regular season. The Patriots cause a matchup problem for any team they face because of their excellent tight end play.
Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez combined for 169 catches and 24 receiving touchdowns this season. Wes Welker led the team in receiving yards with 1,569.
The Giants finshed the regular season at 9-7 but the team has caught fire in the post season. After a 24-2 drubbing of the Atlanta Falcons, the Giants went on the road and defeated the NFC's top two seeds, Green Bay and San Francisco.
Eli Manning has thrown eight touchdowns to only one interception this postseason and has a passer rating of 103.1 in three postseason games.
Super Bowl 46 features Arizona talent as three starters in the game have prominent Arizona ties.
Perhaps the most recognizable Arizona face in the Super Bowl will be Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski. "Gronk" played two seasons at the University of Arizona. He had 16 career touchdown receptions and 1,197 career receiving yards.
Gronkowski was forced to miss his entire junior season because of a back injury. He left school early after his junior year and entered the 2010 NFL draft.
Cardinals fans will know Antrel Rolle well. Rolle was drafted eighth overall in the 2005 by Arizona and spent five seasons with the team. Rolle had eight career interceptions as a Cardinal including a career high five in 2007.
Rolle started 59 games as a member of the Cardinals before leaving Arizona for the Giants. In two seasons in New York, Rolle has three interceptions and 162 tackles.
Perhaps the least known Super Bowl player with Arizona ties is Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara, Amukamara went to Apollo High School in Phoenix and starred on the gridiron. His senior season, Amukamara rushed for over 2,000 yards and had 95 tackles on defense. Amukamara also had 30 total offensive touchdowns that season.
Amukamara went on to play cornerback in college at the University of Nebraska where he was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and a first team All-American.
Super Bowl Winners Giants Show Arizona Cardinals They Are Almost There
by Jess Root
After the Wes Welker drop, the Mario Manningham catch and the last second Hail Mary, the New York Giants became the world champions of the NFL with a 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban then tweeted something that got me thinking.
The tweet was simple. It read, "Good teams make the playoffs, the hot team wins the championship."
Time and time again we see it. A team gets going on a roll just at the right time and rolls through the playoffs. The Arizona Cardinals even did that in 2008. They didn't win the Super Bowl, but the example hits close to home.
Getting hot, though, is not the only thing you need. There is one very important piece, and that is great quarterback play.
