Stay connected for news and updates

The 2011 ESPYs were about what you would expect. Celebrities and celebrity athlete dressed up in their finest and Brian Wilson in his craziest Batman villain outfit. The ladies put on quite a show of their own with Serena Williams dressing to make sure the sporting public hasn't forgotten about her. Seth Meyers did a serviceable if not memorable job as the host and the producers came up with a few funny skits poking fun at the NBA lockout and Dirk Nowitzki

From the local nominees, ASU softball pitcher Dallas Escobedo and Phoenix Coyotes draft pick Andy Miele lost out on their ESPYs but Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi won her fifth. Taurasi was voted the Best WNBA Player.

The real star of the show was ASU wrestler Anthony Robles who won the Best Male Athlete With A Disability Award and also was honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award. Robles gave a stirring and inspirational speech that captured the hearts of the audience.

Overall, it was a watchable awards show that moved along fairly well. Here's one of the better skits from the night.
