Diamondbacks’ Montero Replaces Phillies’ Polanco In MLB All-Star Game

Stay connected for news and updates

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero has been selected to replace Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco for Tuesday's All-Star Game. The decision was made jointly by National League All-Star manager Bruce Bochy and Major League Baseball after Polanco missed the Phillies' last five games and decided to sit out of the All-Star Game.

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Scott Rolen will replace Polanco in the National League's starting line-up, and San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval- added to the N.L. roster today- will be the reserve third baseman. The addition of Montero gives the National League three catchers.

Montero will make his first All-Star appearance in his six seasons, and he will join Justin Upton as the only other Diamondback to play in the All-Star Game. Montero is batting .273 and has scored a total of 40 runs on the season. He has hit ten home runs, 22 doubles, and 45 RBIs this year.

The 82nd All-Star will be telecast by FOX Sports at 5 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
