Thierry Henry And Rafa Marquez Were Here

The two New York Red Bulls (MLS) teammates played integral roles in the 1-1 draw between New York and one of Mexico’s top clubs, Atlas of Guadalajara, Tuesday night at University of Phoenix Stadium.

Henry, former FC Barcelona and French national team star, was the playmaker, trying to create for teammates. He deferred a penalty kick to Marquez, a friend and former Barcelona teammate facing his former team in Atlas, and Marquez converted it.

Marquez is a World Cup veteran for Mexico and was the big draw of the match.

The match signaled the end of MLS preseason training in Arizona. The regular season begins March 15 — less than a week away — when the Seattle Sounders host the Los Angeles Galaxy in a rematch of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs from last fall.
