Diamondbacks Complete Qualls Trade With Matt Gorgen, Stealing Yet Another Young Arm

Since being traded to the Tampa Bay (Not Devil) Rays, Chad Qualls has continued to be Chad Qualls, putting up these numbers: 6.57 ERA in 12.1 Innings over 16 games.

Most D-backs fans were so ready to get rid of Qualls, they would have been fine paying the Rays to take him and been thrilled with the proverbial bag of balls.

Instead, though, interim general manager Jerry Dipoto managed to get back a real live pitcher to in the form of 23-year-old right-handed Matt Gorgen.

Gorgen has a career ERA of 1.45 five in three years of minor league play, totaling 142.1 innings in Single A and Double A ball.

According to the website Rays Prospects, "his fastball isn’t overpowering, sitting in the 91-92 range, but he throws a good change-up and has flashed plus breaking pitches."
