Hudson Brilliant Again As D-backs Beat LA, 5-2

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) – Daniel Hudson threw 8 2/3 innings to help the Arizona Diamondbacks take a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second of a three-game set.

Hudson (7-1) gave up two runs and two hits with two walks and five strikeouts, but fell an out short of his first career complete game for the Diamondbacks, who have won four of their last five. Cole Gillespie hit a three-run home run in the win.

Andre Ethier and James Loney each drove in a run for the Dodgers, who had won their previous two. John Ely (4-9) dropped his fourth straight decision as he was touched for four runs on seven hits with six walks and seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

The Dodgers pushed one across in the fourth as Trent Oeltjen led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Ryan Theriot and crossed the plate on a groundout from Ethier.

Arizona, though, tied the game in the fifth as Stephen Drew led off with a triple and scored when Tony Abreu followed with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, Adam LaRoche led off with a double and a walk two batters later to Brandon Allen was followed by a shot over the left field wall from Gillespie to give Arizona a 4-1 lead.

A sacrifice fly from LaRoche in the seventh gave Arizona a 5-1 lead.

Hudson walked Reed Johnson to start the eighth, but got A.J. Ellis to hit into a double play and Chin-Lung Hu to foul out and end the frame.

Hudson then gave up a two-out single to Theriot followed by a walk to Ethier in the ninth. Mike Hampton took the mound and Loney greeted him with a single to score Theriot. Juan Gutierrez was called out of the bullpen and he struck out Russ Mitchell to pick up his 13th save of the season.
