Derek Anderson Will Start For Cards Against Chicago

Assumed back-up quarterback Derek Anderson will be starting preseason game three, it is being reported, as the Arizona Cardinals face off against the Chicago Bears.

Cardinals Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated that the move was not indicative of any permanent moves; he was simply reversing the roles of Matt Leinart and Anderson from last week to see how each quarterback would respond.

Whishenhunt did, however, include a caveat, saying, "I don't think we have performed the way we should have on offense. We're looking at different players in different spots."

I'm not giving up on Matt and I doubt Whiz is either.

I think this is just as much a wake-up call for Matt as a chance for Derek to prove he’s got what it takes to be a starter. And giving Matt time later might give him a chance to develop more confidence.

BUT, please say the Cards keep Skelton and Hall. The way things are going we’re gonna need them.

From what I've read

they’re planning on keeping both QBs on the 53-man roster.

I don't like this move.

You’ve got to give Leinart more than 13 passes in the preseason before you bury him. This is going to be murder for his confidence.

Every time I think of DA I think of this game: http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=291011002

Murder for his confidence? Unfortunately, I don’t see giving him the job doing anything for his confidence. In the end, confidence is not something anybody can give him (or Whiz aleady would have), he’s got to find it himself. If he does, great. If he doesn’t, that’s too bad. On the record, I think he does find it and has a good year. I predict he’ll have a couple bad games but will, more importantly, respond with impressive game-after-bad-game games.

This is nuts

Leinart is going to start the season and throw bombs…

Whiz is just getting DA out of everyone’s system now so they fully commit to Matt. Unless DA does great in which case Whiz is courageous genius.

It’s a win/win for him either way

chemistry

It’s all about team chemistry. I went to the Cards training camp, and Leinart has no positive impact on the players around him. With him, they go through the motions. He’s too mellow and self-centered. A world of difference with Max Hall, who lit up the team, tore up the field, and affected the players very positively. Anderson is just for now. Whiz is looking beyond Anderson, and I believe he’s found his man with Max Hall. The guy looked decisive and almost Favre like. Hall has the ability to spark the team. Plus a very impressive arm in training camp. At the end of preseason game 3 he again took the team in to the red zone. But this time Whiz stopped the drive and let him take a knee. That told me all I needed to know. Hall no longer had to prove himself. He had already made the cut.
