Oregon State Upsets #9 Arizona, 29-27

Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) – Ryan Katz racked up 393 yards and two touchdowns on 30-of-42 efficiency, guiding Oregon State to a 29-27 road victory over previously unbeaten No. 9 Arizona.

Katz was also picked off once but ran in a TD and distributed the ball to nine receivers, most notably Markus Wheaton, who caught seven passes for 113 yards and a score in OSU’s (3-2, 2-0 Pac-10) fifth straight win in Tucson.

James Rodgers, a preseason Biletnikoff Award candidate, also had seven receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown but left the game with a knee injury in the second quarter.

His brother, Jacquizz, added 124 yards from scrimmage and a score for the Beavers, whose only two losses this year came against Boise State and TCU, both currently ranked in the top-five.

Nick Foles completed 35-of-46 passes for 440 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for Arizona (4-1, 1-1), which was trying for its first 5-0 start since the 1998 campaign.

Juron Criner had game-highs of 12 catches and 179 yards with a score for the Wildcats, who received 110 yards from scrimmage and two TDs from Keola Antolin.

Oregon State Comes To Tucson: What The Blogs Are Saying

AZ Desert Swarm doesn’t think that the Wildcats will be upset in today’s game:

Arizona is not coming off of a big win, so there will be no hangover. The Cal game was anything but a major victory. While the Arizona defense turned in an impressive performance, the offense was anemic. There were plenty of mistakes for the coaches to go over in the film room. Regardless of the final and game winning offensive drive, the offense clearly underperformed. That game was a coach’s dream. A victory, with plenty of stuff to yell at the players about. I can’t see anyone being arrogant about that win.

Arizona will not be looking ahead to the next opponent. With their next game being at Washington St., The Beavers will be at the forefront of all players minds. I’m not going to pick on the Cougs here. I’ll just leave it at that.

Building The Dam has a rosy outlook on the outcome:

With several advantages in Arizona’s favor, I expect Oregon St. to play well, and again cover the 7.5 point spread, but come up short, and by too much for Kahut to make the difference. Arizona 31 Oregon St. 27 looks like the betting line to take.

Probable outcome aside, Oregon St. coach Mike Riley is money once the Beavers get past September (which is when last year’s debacle happened). And the Beavers’ defensive front got six sacks last week, to go with three interceptions.

Jacquizz Rodgers got hurt two years ago in Tucson, and doesn’t have a good game on his resume against Arizona. ‘Quizz doesn’t leave unfinished business very often.

James Rodgers is back healthy. James almost never leaves unfinished business.

Given that the Oregon St. defense makes a couple of big plays to offset giving up a couple of plays, this OSU business trip turns bad for the ‘Cats.

Oregon St. 34 Arizona 30.

My favorite quote from the comments section?

Brain says 31-24 ’Cats; gut says 27-24 Katz.
